About

The Tongue is the Rudder

Welcome! I'm so glad you have found my page! I'm Rachel Thompson, a myofunctional therapist currently residing in the great state of Texas, while also serving clients throughout multiple states. Over the past 14 years, as a Registered Dental Hygienist, I have focused on patient-centered care through consulting and clinical aspects of dental hygiene in private dental offices, pediatric dental offices, Veteran Affairs dental clinics, and community health offices. As a clinician, I have seen an innumerable amount of oral dysfunctions over the years. Essentially, I felt the health field was missing a key piece to/of patient care. Fast forward to the last few years, where I have done a deep dive into holistic, functional, and integrative practices in the health world. It was through this shift a friend asked me if I had ever considered becoming a myofunctional therapist. Once I started researching the basis of orofacial myofunctional disorders, I knew I could bring a new functional approach to assist clients with the normalization of developed or developing craniofacial structures and function. The clarity I have gained in regard to my own dental and airway journey, inspires me to grow with the field through both education and practice in order to help you get back to normal functioning health. By looking at the body as a whole, myofunctional therapy can help with a wide range of disorders, including but not limited to: tongue thrusting, low tongue posture, open mouth breathing, sleep apnea support, reduction in digestive issues, relieving constant ear infections, preventing chronic headaches, reduction in TMJ and facial pain, reduction of teeth grinding and clenching, tongue tie release pre and post therapy, palatal expansion support, orthodontia support, bed wetting, eating/drinking/swallowing issues, reducing allergies, preventing snoring issues, and dry mouth improvement -- just to name a few. The tongue is the rudder for posture, airway, and facial development in the human body. As your Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist, I am excited to work together with you and your children with a patient-centered, multi-disciplinary team to find the root cause of the dysfunction to help you improve overall health.
